This Week at PVUMC 5/21/24

I am speechless. The Silent Auction was incredible. Our Pentecost service was so full of love and joy. Big and beautiful things are happening in this place and I have been so in awe of the work of the Spirit. Thank you to all who helped out at these past two fundraisers, we have raised way more money than I ever thought possible and I loved to seeing our people work together so lovingly! Trina will be announcing on Sunday how much money we raised (hint: it’s a lot!), so be sure to come on out to church this holiday weekend. Charlie McCoy and the Easley 3 will be leading contemporary worship this Sunday!

Pastor Steve’s Sermon: On Sunday I preached on the work of the Spirit bringing the world back to God. Read it here.

This Sunday is Pentecost
Wear Red this Sunday to celebrate the birthday of our church. Pentecost marks 50 days after Easter Sunday and celebrates the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the church in Acts 2. We will have an instructed communion where I will explain the theology and history of our liturgy.

St. Pauly Textile Shed
On Wednesday, we had a shed delivered to the church from an organization called St. Pauly Textile. It’s a collection place for used textiles (anything from shirts and pants to purses and blankets). They collect these items and distribute them all over the world to organizations and businesses that need it. In addition to the good cause, we will receive a portion of their proceeds which we’ve been told can be anywhere between $1000-$2000/year. We are also allowed to go into the shed and take anything we need that might benefit the community (think coats or sleeping bags for the homeless). The trustees voted on this initiative with the understanding that if it degrades our church property in any kind of way or becomes more work than it is worth, we can ask the company to come get their shed. So, this week we will begin a trial period to see how it goes. I, for one, am excited to what God does with this new partnership.
