This Week at PVUMC 7/30/24

Pastor Steve’s Sermon: On Sunday, I preached on praying for more love. Read it here.

Back to School Bash: Bring your friends and let’s party! THIS SUNDAY, August 4th, we will have a service focused on blessing teachers and students. Then, afterwards we will party on the lawn with burgers and hot dogs, music, and an inflatable waterslide! Bring your backpacks to be blessed! No drop offs please.

School Supply Drive: This Sunday we will be collecting class room supplies for teachers and students in need. Click here to see the list.

School Drive Mission Opportunity: On Monday, August 5th at 2pm come to the Fellowship Hall to help us sort and pack backpacks for PVES and ECES. Then at 4:30 we will deliver our school supplies over to the schools. Stick around and help me host a table during PVES Open House in the school lobby to welcome and pass out backpacks to those in need!

Teacher Appreciation Breakfast: On Tuesday, August 6th at 8am, we will be providing breakfast for the teachers at PVES. See Trina if you’d like to help.

Safe Sanctuary Training: All church members and prospective church members are encouraged to attend our Safe Sanctuary Training. Being a healing community that serves the community and loves our neighbor also means providing safe and organized space for children and vulnerable adults to thrive! We will have our meeting after church on August 11th in the sanctuary. This is something that is required by the conference every four years if you are going to be serving children or vulnerable adults.

Methodism 101: In September, Pastor Steve and Pastor Anne will be leading a five-week course on learning the basics of Methodism. It is for anyone ages 12 and up. We will explore our theology, church history, and the peculiarities of our tradition. This is a great course for prospective members, young people interested in confirmation, and seasoned veterans wanting a deeper understanding of their methodist identity. We will gather in the sanctuary (September 8 – October 5: 5:30-7:00pm).

Journey to New Beginnings: Our Journey Series continues with a powerful group on grief. The group will meet August 21 – October 9 from 6:00-7:30pm. We will explore the stages of grief and the cumulative effects of loss. This group is for anyone who has experienced any kind of loss at any time in their life. I have come to learn that a significant part of the spiritual journey is learning to grieve well and I hope you all consider this incredible opportunity.

PVUMC Craft Fair at the Pavilion: Our Prayer Shawl Ministry will be hosting a Craft Fair at the Pavilion on October 5th. Proceeds will benefit the Prayer Shawl Ministry. They not only use their proceeds to buy yarn but also support missions and ministry in our community. For more information click here or contact Suzanne McElwee (817-908-5412).
